Electrolysis of Mostar Aluminij, today, produced three million tons of liquid metal since Electrolysis started work in the late 1970s of the last century. Aluminij d.d. Mostar, in the year of celebrating the 20th anniversary of the re-launch of production after the devastating destruction of the plant, has achieved tremendous success that shows that three million tons of top-quality aluminium from Mostar electrolytic cells have reached dozens of countries across the globe over the past decades.
To point out, Aluminij was, under its distinguished name, established in 1977, since it has emerged as a developer of aluminium production in B&H, but also in the backbone of its environment. In 1992, it was destroyed by the war, anddemolished, robbed and burned by the aggressor's forces. War damage amounted to 140 million Euros. The renovation started in 1995, so that on March 15th, 1997, Anode plant was commissioned and on August 14th, the first electrolyte cell in Electrolysis was reactivated. Full capacity of 256 electrolytic cells was reached in November 1999. Aluminij has been carrying out extensive and hundreds of millions of Euros worth modernization, reaching 99.85 percent of the purity of electrolytic metal, which is why it is recognizable worldwide and this metal is wanted by the most demanding customers.
The recessionary effects and consequences of the previous mismanagement have left the current administration in the legacy of 25 percent of the dead cells, which restart, worth more than 15 million KM, is currently underway.
- I'm sorry that we could reached this figure much earlier, if some things have been done differently in the past. But when I look back at everything that we have experienced and the last year's almost unmanageable status, and see what we have been able to do in the meantime, as a powerful and capable team, I feel the incredible pride of all our employees, especially those in production - commented Boris Vican, the Executive Director for Technical Affairs and Development and a Board Member, congratulating colleagues on three million tonnes today with a boiling point at 950° C, which was controlled professionally by the cells workers at temperatures above 60° C under heavy protective equipment.
This metal is now cooled in the Aluminij Foundry Plant, preparing to conquer the world, and the Director of the Company and CEO Mario Gadžić is pleased to announce that, at this pace, the next round number will be celebrated much earlier.
- This is the number that we must respect. We are committed to implementing a comprehensive restructuring of Aluminij's business, and by October next year, we will have all 256 cells in operation, and together with the maximum optimized conversion capabilities at the Foundry, we will reach new records in total production volume. We are still far from the point where we could say that we have completely overcome the inherited problems. However, we have been in bankruptcy last year, and today we are restarting once shutdown production and we are pursuing higher levels of our metal processing, that is, its finalization within our circle, which is our strategic vision on which we work day after day - the Director is satisfied with the business direction of the factory.
The heat of the July and August has been briefly forgotten today because of the beautiful news that the plant workers are particularly proud of. They say that this is only the first three million in the series of those that will come from the grotto of Mostar cells, creating new values and safer tomorrow for the Herzegovinian giant, as well as the whole area to which it belongs.
