At today’s session of the Assembly of the Association of manufacturers and processors of aluminium in BiH, the activities of the association were restarted, and Mr. Zoran Raspudić from Aluminij d.d. Mostar was named a President. In addition, besides the sole Bosnian-Herzegovinian manufacturer of this metal, Mostar Aluminij, members of UPPA BiH are also major processing companies Alpro Vlasenica, Athabasca Investment Tomislavgrad, Fe-Al Mostar, Feal Široki Brijeg, Jajce Allow Wheels, Presal Extrusion Široki Brijeg, Interkomerc Mostar, TMD AGS Gradačac and TT Kabeli Široki Brijeg. Previously assumed commitments prevented representatives of TMD AGS and TT Kabeli from participating in the work of today's assembly.
The Assembly was held in the Administrative building of Aluminij, and the direct cause of the gathering of the holder of this branch of the metal sector of BiH is the measures adopted by the European Union regarding the customs regime for the import of aluminium into EU member states as well as the actual serious deterioration of the business status of Aluminij d.d. Mostar, as the backbone of the entire aluminium industry in BiH. UPPA members have achieved intensive communication with the Government of FBiH (especially with the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry), the BiH Council of Ministers (notably the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations), the FBiH Chamber of Commerce and the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, as well as with related associations in the Republic Croatia and other surrounding countries.
- UPPA members are aware of the severity of the moment in which we find ourselves and have made the necessary pressure on all relevant state bodies and institutions to mitigate or attempt to mitigate the effects of these dangerous EU measures threatening to shake up the BiH metal sector. They also supported and justified Aluminij’s demands towards entity government in FBiH to make irrevocable decisions to rescue Aluminij through reorganization and restructuring of a series of illogicality in the field of domestic electro-energetic sector, tax, fiscal and parafiscal charges and a series of charges that affect the domestic industry - said newly appointed President of UPPA BiH, Mr. Zoran Raspudić.
In other words, the strength and significance of this association is reflected in the production and processing of about 200,000 tons of aluminium annually, the achievement of a billion KM of revenue and 700 million KM of export value per year, the employment of more than 2000 workers and the annual payment of 50 million KM to the state for tax purposes. Over 40,000 people are directly dependent on UPPA members, through their employees and employees of their 3500 subcontractors in BiH and additional 1,500 business partners outside of BiH, and this industry is vital to the stability of Luke Ploče in the Republic of Croatia and rail and road freight transport in BiH, as well as the financial and social stability of BiH, through the stability of the health, pension and consumer system.
